“…no matter how bad things get, you should always have hope.”

Book-a-likes: How the Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr. Seuss, A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, and a movie we used to watch growing up called Mr. Krueger’s Christmas (starring Jimmy Stewart!!)

This is another one I only flipped through at a book sale recently before deciding to pick it up.  Just read it and it totally made me tear up so based on that I’d say it was a good buy!

Winter’s Gift tells the story of an old man living in the woods who is sad on Christmas Eve because his wife has died and this will be his first Christmas alone.  So this year no tree and no start on top to give hope.  Because he has no hope.

Meanwhile a wild mare loses her herd and wanders to the old man’s farm in search of shelter.  He takes her in, cares for her, and falls asleep in the barn.  When he awakens he’s shocked to find a new foal just learning to stand, complete with a perfectly shaped star marking on its forehead.  Like his wife or the universe or God or whoever is sending him a Christmas message that even all alone we can still have hope and give and receive help and okay, now I’m tearing up again….

oprah crying tears
