Teaches: daddy helping his cub to do grown-up things

“You’re getting brave, Little Bear,” said Daddy Bear.  “Daring enough to collect honey with me.”

Book-a-likes: The Very Best Daddy of All by Marion Dane Bauer

This is a cute one if you’re looking for a Father’s Day gift for a new dad or new dad-to-be.  I Love You, Daddy shows Daddy Bear and Little Bear (non-gender-specific, so works for boys or girls) how to climb trees, look for honey, and even lets him pick their new den for the winter.  All the while he encourages his cub reminding him, “You can do it!”  They spend a whole awesome day together where Little Bear learns skills needed to grow and loves his Daddy.  Though he falls asleep at the end while trying to tell Daddy Bear just that!

The copy of this book we have is kind of huge.  It’s the size of a picture book even though it’s a board book.  Baby loves it though.  She loves turning the giant pages and likes when Little Bear tumbles out of the tree and we pretend to let her tumble backwards, too.  Or when the bees buzz around the tree and we make our fingers into buzzing bees to tickle her neck.  I always love books that provide moments of interaction during the story because baby always gets way more into them than the others.

This book has a great father/child relationship in it.  I know there’s another one with the same cub and the mom, but I haven’t read it yet so I can’t comment on it.  But if I find it I’m probably going to pick it up, too!
